PorschePorsche 993: Trouble getting to #6 spark plug on the intake side without pulling the power steering pump off.

We have the answer. Drill a 1 1/2 inch hole in the sheet metal directly opposite the spark plug hole, you can gain access to the backside of the sheet metal through the right rear wheel well with the tire off. Once you drill the hole and change the spark plug you can cover the hole with a rubber plug that we sell for only $2.50. After you do this the first time you can always go back, remove the rubber cover and change the spark plug on future tune ups. This is a clean and efficient way to save time.

We recently received an e mail from a Porsche mechanic, he said that he was working on a ’81 911SC with a lean condition. After trying everything he knew, he asked for our help. We told him to listen for the buzzing that the frequency valve makes, was it constant, erratic or not there? He said that he could not here any buzzing at all. We told him to check the frequency valve relay under the front passenger seat to see if it was working properly. He checked it and said that it was not working at all, so he replaced it, fixing the problem. Feel free to e mail us at any time or call us with your problem questions, we will respond as quickly as possible.

The cause of this is a small plastic check ball that after years of rolling back and forth over the coarse aluminum of the valve body wears down in size, pushed through the small hole it was supposed to seal and lodged in a small passage way.

The fix is simple remove the valve body, separate the four sections of the valve body, remove the worn out ball and replace it. The replacement ball that we use is a Chevrolet rubber coated check ball that is slightly larger than the old ball was when it was new. If you have this problem now or in the future, we will be happy to walk you through this process. Just remember when replacing the filter and fluid always buy from us or the BMW dealer because we have had problems with aftermarket filters and there is no substitute for the fluid.
